A Colossal Disappointment?

I do not like walking Rose in the dark. At. All. I cannot see, unless I'm beneath a tall, bright streetlight!! Dangers for Rose lurk everywhere!! There may be piles of wormy, dark-hued animal poop just awaiting her brown muzzle to inspect.... And eat. Sly, mask-faced, ring-tailed raccoons can lurk about. In the pitch-black darkness, it's as though everything is invisible at times!! Plus.... I am afraid of the dark. Yep!! Afraid. As though some hairy monster, resembling Sasquatch, is going to sneak up from behind me and steal my body away!! It's silly. I know. Whenever I actually enjoy walking Rose in the dark is beneath a spectacular clear blue sky filled with twinkling stars. Plus the moon. It's oft overcast and rainy around here, so a dark, sparkling sky is nothing to take for granted!! The other night, we were all eagerly anticipating something special. Something rare. Something grand. We were waiting to catch a glimpse of The Full Flower Moon!! However, there was cloud coverage. So we waited. And waited. And waited some more. We could see where this colossal-sized moon would be, as its white glow radiated the clouds. Time kept ticking. Our one-window opportunity to see the year's largest moon was swiftly diminishing, like descending sands in an hourglass. It seemed hopeless. So everybody gave up and went to bed. Except me. I still needed to walk Rose!! So, around 10PM, I saddled my little girl's red harness and snapped on her leash. Out the white magnetic front door we stepped. While walking, I kept a vigilant eye on that glow in our clouds. I watched and watched. I had never desired to witness a full moon so badly before!! Meanwhile, Rose sniffed everything.... Wooden fence posts, bushes, green grass, sidewalks. She was tracking some scent, like the Beagle within her would. Most likely another dog's urine locations. Hounds!! Then, emerging from the clouds like some shy child peering his head from behind a doorway, there it was!! Small. And not at all what I had expected. For I missed The Super Moon's time. This was just a normal, nearly-full white ball. However, I marveled at its breathtaking beauty, anyway!! Rose continued to sniff every crevice of our small world. Wooden fence posts, bushes, green grass, sidewalks.... And, no, she did not bay at the top of her vocal chords!! See, Rose doesn't howl. She tried to once, but it did not come out right!! No. Rose bays!! But my mongrel was too distracted for that!! Because between her Attention Deficit Disorder and hound instincts, she seemed mentally occupied!! But this was okay with me!! Rose's high-pitched bay could be heard clear in China!! Was this moon a colossal disappointment? Nope!!

Hi there Raelyn

Yes, it's is wonderful to be blogging-buddies. (I have put you on my blogroll where you will find some other wonderful Blogging buddies too)
I'm really enjoying your posts. Keep writing.

The wonders of our world are just that...wonderous! Whether they are heavenly bodies or sweet earthly ones like Rose. We marvel at every aspect of this incredible creation. I marvel at the extraordinary + powerful inter-species
relationships which can develop.

Also, just a thought...Ever considered a sight-challenged person's experience of the dark?

Take a look at this blog:

So disappointing to see the super moon. I worked Sat and Sun nights so I missed it too and just saw what you saw. However, it was still pretty spectacular.
Glad you and Rose had a good walk.

I don't like the dark either....I really think there are monsters all over! So when Mike lets me out before bed I demand the yard light be turned on.... I am happy you got to see the Full Moon....I look forward to then each month!

Saw the Super Moon but felt as you did: extremely beautiful but it looked just like any other full moon. I could not discern it being any larger than usual. I caught it 20 minutes after it rose (only because the tree line blocked the view for the initial rising) but I was still hoping for something rather spectacular. Regardless, I love the moon and I always think it looks brilliant!

I love walking Suka in the dark. I live in the country so it can be very black at night (depending on the moon phase) which makes the stars look amazing. I see a lot of falling stars/meteors, and other unique things. And when I lived in the city I did not worry because Suka is so big he frightens people just by his size! I always feel safe with Suka!

You live in the country?! I envy that!! The moon and stars would be so radiant!! Meteors? We only enjoy those during August.... If we're lucky!! ;op

Sorry you didn't get to see the "Super Moon." It was pretty incredible in my neck of the woods. Hopefully you'll get to see the next one.

I really don't like walking Nola in the pitch dark either! That's too bad you didn't get to see the super moon; we saw it but it just looked like a harvest moon

Thanks for the comment!! You are my first "Beagle blogger" to stop by!! Yay!! I have no idea why that's so important to me!! ;)
Thank-you!! I think that Rose "iza purty lady", too!! ;-D
Call me overprotective, if you will. But Rose is not allowed outside our fenced backyard unattended at night. For twain reasons. One: She is mostly all black.... I would never see her!! And two: We get travelling raccoons at night. I do not even want to think about what my "hunter" Rose would do if she faced one!! :-O
Yes, she does have a "purty" voice!! Just loud, as I am sure you already know!! I love that even before I step foot onto our front porch upon returning home, prior to turning the key, Rose starts baying!! Because she loves her Mama!! ;op
5AM? Oh, no. Most of my family--and neighbors--are still in bed at that hour!! ;-}

As you can imagine, the super moon was highly anticipated around here, and yep, we were also underwhelmed! I think if we could have seen it at the right time it would have been better, but the clouds covered it up. The little babe still keeps asking, "Moon? Moon?" whenever it gets dark. Tonight, Daddy commented that he sounds like a moon-atic!

Awwww, poor little babe!! That was a disappointment for him!! And Blondie, too, I imagine!! :-(
Well, there's nothing wrong with always anticipating the moon.... Uncle Michael is usually first to let us know it's out!! "Moon-atic"? That is funny!! ;op

I used to walk my big angel Laura at night in the dark and I wasn't worried or scared at all but I don't think I dare to walk Eva in the dark. I just feel that it isn't safe nowadays.
